Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Name?

The ends are all buried, the binding is machined on, and I'm all ready to handsew it down to the back - then the final job will be to incorporate an embroidered label to the back.

Except I am still dithering on what to call it.

What do you reckon?

  1. I rarely name a quilt unless I enter it into a show and they want me to put a name down for it, and then I go through what you're going through now. Until then they just get generic names, like "red & white Jacob's ladder" or "purple applecore" or "Hoopla baby quilts." Good luck though!

  2. Well, your first quilt was called Helen's Quilt, so this could be Hazel's Quilt? Christmas Cracker? No more ideas at the moment.

  3. People laugh at my quilt names. I made a frog-oriented quilt for my sister, in an attic window pattern and called it "How Much is That Froggie In The Window?" I'm working on a poke-your-eyes-out bright floral now and the working title is "Good Lord I'm Going To Have to Wear Sunglasses To Bed". And that's toned down from "Holy Crap That's Bright". So I'll refrain from offering any suggestions.

  5. Don't worry about finding the "right" name. It will come to you when the time is right (and you are relaxed and have stopped thinking of it). Or else you will find yourself in conversation with Rita or someone and you'll say "the {bla bla bla insert name} quilt is over there ...."

Just give yourself a HUGE pat on the back for finishing such a lovely quilt, AND enjoying the process, AND wanting to do another.

(How about "Mum's quilt" and you can say that's one Christmas present sorted?)

  9. Kriss Cross comes to mind, but like BilboWaggins said when the time is right the name will come.

  10. You are all brilliant, thank you - and Pat wins a prize for laugh-out-loud outrageousness, does she not - so fab!!

Collegue Rita has summed all the advice up, and I'll be making the label as part of the finishing this weekend. :)

    Thank you, girls!
