Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Christmas Quiltalong! July

I'm afraid that I have been rather late to the party this month, but Sue kindly emailed my this month's sixth and final star blocks yesterday, and I have been putting them together today.

These have been the most complicated to date - and the difficulty of putting them together has been exacerbated by the cream 'incredible shrinking fabric' which shrivels up at the merest hint of a warm iron. I am not unhappy about seeing the last of this, now all the star blocks are completed.

Excitement abounds for next month - we'll be putting together connector blocks which will involve new fabrics, and different cutting and piecing. Can't wait!

  1. All your stars look so great together. I bet you're really happy you've finished the incredible shrinking cream fabric - that just reinforces Bilbo's maxin "all cotton fabrics are not created equal" doesn't it?

  2. It's going to be a gorgeous quilt Hazel. Well done for persevering in the face of adversity!

  3. Well, even though the cream gave you so much trouble, the color scheme looks great and the blocks look perfect. I think the grey and yellow hve a very sophisticated look. I'm also looking forward to next month and the next challenge.

  4. Very elegant - why worry about patterned fabrics when your instinctive choices look so good?

    I've seen blocks made by quilters who have been doing this for years which don't look as good as yours {{hug}}

  5. You're right, Sue, I'm glad I'm not wrestling with the cream fabric anymore - however in the great tradition of closing the door after the horse has bolted, I've washed and ironed the remaining length and would like as not have no further trouble with it!

    Thank you, Ali - this stage has worked out better than I'd hoped!

    The colours haven't reproduced well, Joanna, it's a sort of beige, really - I'm just hoping that I've chosen the other fabrics well to compliment these!

    Plain fabrics show up the quilting so, Bilbo, and that bit I am not confident about - especially if I stick to the plan of free machine quilting for this one...
