Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Knuckling Down

I've been putting off quilting a Festive Mystery because I am unsure if the zingy mettalic thread will be all too much; and I also hadn't had any brainwaves about how to quilt it.

The deadline is looming for finishing this quilt, though (a week on Saturday, to be precise), so tonight I bit the bullet and got in front of the machine.

Good news - the thread runs through the machine nicely; it is delicate enough not to overwhelm the quilt; a brainwave included holly leaves.

I didn't make the mistake of ploughing on at the hint of a good thing but sensibly stopped with a small section done so I can stand back in the daylight and look at it to make sure I'm happy with the result.

Favourable vibes so far, however.

    1. I can doodle holly leaves and daisies, and that's my lot, so that's what gets quilted!

  3. You're doing a fabulous job on this. As soon as it is finished you can make a start on Country Charmer :}

    Some of the lovely fabrics from Rita would go very nicely in the CC blocks, {ducking, runs away}

  4. I can only echo what the others have said. It looks great, the thread adn the holly leaves work brilliantly.

    Isn't it interesting that I made the same comment as Bilbo to you in an email about the Country Charmer fabrics? (I'm running too)

  5. Looks very nice. I'll have to try that thread. I have used metallic in cross stitch, but not on my machine. Good job.

    1. The metal part of the thread can shred from the cotton bit, and make you stop and start again, but it's not so often as to be annoying!

    1. Thank you, Sue - I'd hoped that once I'd got to grips with this, it would fly along, but each pair of leaves seems to take some time - no matter, it'll get done when it does!
