Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Machine Quilting - Practising

Are you lot all having me on?

Having had a go at so-called free machine quilting, I have come the the conclusion that this method is a fiction and cannot possibly exist as it is CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to move the quilt practise 'sandwich' smoothly round the plate whilst sewing to create even stitches and smooth lines.

I think that the quilting world is having a late 'April's fool' at my expense.

No, I'm not showing you what I've done.

Grump.

  1. It isn't easy, but it is doable. As you say, it takes practise. If you want some ideas, visit http://www.FreeMotionQuilting.blogspot.com or http://www.afewscraps.blogspot.com. A Few Scraps has a tab for free motion quilting with lots of info. Her blog is the one I used to get started. It can be fun:)

  2. Not got to the 'fun' stage yet, Joanna - still on furrowed brow and tongue poked out the side of my mouth in concentration!

Thanks for the links - very useful. :)

A third session this evening shows a glimmer of improvement - and when I get the proper 'foot' I will be in a better position to give this a go.

My aim is to be able to free machine quilt the Christmas Scatty Stars.
