Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Christmas Quiltalong - July - whoop, whoop!

Needle, Thread, Happiness

DRUMROLL, PLEASE!

'It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock and it's........Crackerjack!!!!!!!!!!'

Ahem.  No it's not - but a metaphorical prize for those who recognise the immortal words above (and an extra pat on the back for the names of any three of the presenters).  And we don't feel old at all after that, do we? No. Yikes!

Try again.  'It's Saturday, it's 10 o'clock and it's........the Christmas Quiltalong!' Hurrah!  Now you might not win cabbages on this show, kids*, but we are going to have a CRACKERJACK of a weekend!  (see what I did there?)

You are all invited to come over to my place for a weekend of SEWING and - I hope - a great deal of seasonal fun. We have a CHALLENGE to take up, a little Christmas baking, something to stretch the braincells - and a heartfelt plea to be answered!

Of course, by 'seasonal', I mean Christmas - though you might not know it in the middle of July.  Here in the UK we have a proper Summer going on - wall to wall sunshine today is due to be the hottest day of the year with temps up to 29C!  This is what it looks like out of my attic room window at the mo.

I've just thought!  OzSue has this sort of weather at Christmas all the time - wow!  Weird (for those of us with snowmen and roaring fires at Christmas), but I love how different our experiences of the Festive Season are!  More of that later........

In the meantime, there is sewing afoot!!  Have you taken up the gauntlet of QuiltSue's challenge?? Can you come up with a Christmas project not measuring more that 96" around the edge with USES NEITHER RED NOR GREEN FABRIC - boy!

Uh oh!  Too tough?  No!  Not according to those girls who played along last month at Joanna's place!  But you can always use this time to work on any of your Christmas projects - there's nothing like being ahead of the game to give you that smug feeling in December!

Come and join us?  Do say you will!

I've set up a Mr Linky on the QAL page - sign up and join the fun!

*as an aside, if you look at youtube vids of this quiz/games show for 10 year olds, you'll see what facts the children were expected to know.  I like to think I am bright enough, but I struggled on the gen knowledge questions.  Are we dumbing down our education system? Hmm.

  1. You calling me old, sweetie?

    I shall start by tellling you it is a beautiful day in The Shire, QuiltSue is sitting opposite me with a big mug of latte and Daisy is lying at my feet :}

Then I shall (apologetically) tell you you're a little bit wrong because the phrase should be:
"It's Friday, it's five to five and it's Crackerjack. Those five minutes made all the difference and trust me ... I grew up with that programme and never missed a show.

Which is probably how I can tell you that some of the presenters were Leslie Crowther, Michael Aspel, Ronnie Corbett, Peter Glaze, Ed (Stewpot) Stewart, Eamonn Andrews and Max Bygraves.

And changing the subject, have you been eavesdropping on Sue & I this week because there have been conversations about the dumbing down of television and where the hell are standards going these days (apart from straight down ....)?

  2. I would just like to add two things to Bilbo's novel - firstly, I helped with naming presenters, so she can't claim the prize all on her own and secondly, we did spend most of yesterday working on our Christmas challenges.

  3. As it's a metaphorical prize I was metaphorically going to share it ... when I've worked out how!

  4. I can't help feeling Bilbo may have either had too much coffee or too much sun - metaphorically speaking.

    2. Don't worry, she's just left and is now enjoying the A66 and a thoroughly air-conditioned Honda!

I'm off to finish putting net over the greenhouse windows to stop the bluddy blackbirds going in to steal the strawberries!

    3. If the blackbirds go in your greenhouse they will expire! Come to think of it, if YOU go into your greenhouse you will expire!!

    4. But if I don't go into the greenhouse to water the tomatoes and strawberries THEY will expire, it got to 102.6 degrees in there on Thursday!

The anti-blackbird net is also shading part of the roof, perhaps that will keep the temperature down a little?

  5. Just waking up here in Nova Scotia Canada to sunshine, birds singing, and a predicted high of 23...a perfect day to sew along! Will be linking later in the day once I've had time to write a post and get some sewing done. Lots of Christmas projects being readied for my sewing corner! And just wondering what one drinks with coffee in the UK...you gals are flying high! Wish I was there!

  8. Hi, I've been up for hours but an early trip to our local refuse tip, with a boot full of rubbish had to come first. It is rather warm in central England and only going to get hotter.
Yesterday I bought some more fat quarters for my project but I've not had chance to cut them yet. I must also charge my camera batteries to take some photos of progress.

    1. You're right there, Alcea - and the attic room where I sew catches the afternoon sun. Can't complain though - Summer's here!

Look forward to seeing what you get up to today.

  9. Ok, I'm awake but not up yet. It's coffee in bed day so I'm winding up slowly. No crackerjack here - yet! It's going to be a wonderful quilting weekend.

I'll make sure I leave a list of who's playing along this weekend up on the QAL page so you can come back at your leisure to see what's been going on!
