Having been given a jelly roll and a quilting book for Christmas 2010, there is no excuse not to get on with quiltmaking.

Here's what happened next...

Christmas QAL - September pt2 - Auditions

I've got my Christmas project out and am at the stage where I need to decide on sashing.

I had my glamorous assistant with me, but between us we can't decide between...

...brown...

...cream...

...yellow...

...or orange...

Actually, it appears that at least one of us is not keen on the orange.

What do you think?

The sun's come out, so I'm going to nip over the the allotment and ask Grumpy George what he thinks, and with a bit of luck I'll be back with some courgettes and raspberries for tea.

See you in a bit.

  1. That's a tricky one. How about a compromise, and have more than one border?

    1. Ha! Very funny - good idea, except if I have more than one border, I blow someone's overall size stipulation...

  2. I'm linked and looking forward to a weekend of stitching and browsing the Internet to see what all the rest of you are up to. The QAL weekends are such great fun!

  3. I like cream but usual for me. Those glamorous assistants are so fussy.

    1. I usually like cream too, but in this case I think it is too stark a contrast with the black block backgrounds.

  4. Yellow or brown, not sure how true the colours are. I agree with your assistant, not the orange.

    1. They were my first thoughts too, Josie - but I wanted to explore some other ideas too - sometimes they surprise you, don't they?

  5. Laughing at "Quilt Block with Added Cat" - do need a design wall, m'dear.

I'd go for cream because it picks up the star points in the two blocks. Have never been keen on borders which don't relate in any way to what's in the middle but that's just me.

... and I'm also a hypocrite because I've just realised that's exactly what I did last week with one of those little tops that are going to be Daisy blankies!

    1. I'm with your reasoning all the way, except the cream isn't the same as the points, and doesn't go so nicely; but the the yellow is from the star points and ties in quite well.

  6. Yay, I finally linked up and am sewing some Christmas dresdens!I think all the sashing looks great...my choice would probably be brown, but all of them really look nice!

    1. I think that the brown would hide any marks really well, so I'm drawn to the darker fabric as you suggest. On balance, I think that tying in with an existing fabric will make for a better overall finish, though.
